Personal Interests

Chinese Sheng

For more than 10 years, under the expert eyes and ears of Wang Zheng Ting, I studied the intricate art of playing the Chinese Sheng (Mouth Organ). Before moving to Sydney, I was a member of the Chaofeng Chinese Orchestra, and also was a founding member and Treasurer of the Melbourne Philharmonic Chinese Orchestra.

As the lead Sheng player in both of these groups, I played at many local, interstate and overseas venues, including two performing trips to Taiwan, and tours of Singapore and China.

Since moving to Sydney, I haven't found as much time to play my Sheng. I have, however, remained in contact with the Melbourne Philharmonic Chinese Orchestra, and most recently returned to Melbourne to play at their official launch concert in August 2004.

I'm still interested in potentially starting a group in Sydney. If you know of any musicians in Sydney who play a Chinese musical instrument, please let me know. I'd love to start up even a small group of interested people.

The BeBox Zone

I also spend some of my 'spare' time, developing and maintaining The BeBox Zone.

The site is a comprehensive collection of information about the BeBox computer, built by Be Incorporated in various different models between 1991 and 1997. As well as a heap of technical documentation and code snippets about everything from the Geekport to the BeBox BootROM, there is also a community forum available that allows people to interact with other members of the BeBox community.

Want to know more about the BeBox? Then head on over to The BeBox Zone and find out!

Camp Cooinda

My summers are generally spent with my wife Michelle at Camp Cooinda (on the Gippsland Lakes in Victoria), where we are both volunteer leaders. Camp Cooinda is all about having fun outdoors, encouraging people to make new friends, learn new things (like how to paddle canoes and sail a yacht), and to feel good about themselves.

I'm also one of the webmasters for the Camp Cooinda website, and a member of the Camp Cooinda Inc Committee which looks after everything during the year to make the summer camps possible.
