Biography

I joined CSIRO Division of Computing Research (which became DIT then CMIS and finally ICT Centre) in 1981 and worked for a decade on image processing software for satellite and geographical information systems, as team leader from 1986. In the 1990's I led projects on numerical control of colour (91-93) and visualisation & virtual reality in mining (94-99). From 2000 to 2005 I led projects applying collaborative VR into health applications

From early 2006 to late 2007 I worked with a team on Broadband Tele-health. The research prototype that we developed was deployed in a field trial at the Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne, in September 2007 and we are currently publishing the results of this trial.

The most recent project that I have worked on was in the field of tele-robotics in mining applications. This project is awaiting commissioning of the communications hardware at the mine site before a field trial which is hoped will take place early in the second half of 2008.
