Biography
Dr. Huang is currently a research scientist at CSIRO ICT Centre, working on HCI issues in mobile/wearable/ubiquitous computing, computer-supported collaboration, computer graphics/vision/visualization/multimedia, and virtual/mixed/augmented reality, and human factors and visual perception issues in use of these technologies in industrial systems. He is also interested in network analysis and visualization.
He received his PhD in computer science from University of Sydney, in association with National ICT Australia (NICTA). He also has formal training in cognitive psychology and professional experience in psychometrics. His research interests lie in human-centered computing in general, and HCI, human factors and visual perception and cognition in particular. He has published a number of high quality papers in these areas. He has four conference papers each being selected as one of the best papers and recommended for journal publication. At the recent IEEE Symposium on Visual Languages and Human-Centric Computing (VL/HCC 2011) at Pittsburgh, USA, he won the best short paper award.
Dr. Huang actively serves the research community. He has been invited to serve as a member of organizing committees and program committees for conferences and workshops. He is also a regular reviewer for leading conferences and journals. Currently, he is editing a Springer book, chairing short papers for OzCHI 2011, and chairing technical program for CGIV 2012.
He also provides consulting services to internal research teams and external companies on user requirements analysis, user interface design, human factors issues and statistical analysis. He has developed a 350-item checklist for heuristic evaluation of 3d multimodal user interfaces. The external companies he had worked with include EnergyAustralia, Echelon Mining Services and BHP Billiton.
Dr Huang is an honorary associate with School of IT at University of Sydney, a professional member of Human Factors & Ergonomics Society of Australia, and a HCI TC member of IEEE SMC Society. In recent years, he has been a research fellow at University of Sydney and Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER), and a visiting researcher at University of Technology, Sydney(UTS).
